The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 16-year-old Ransford Owusu has begun, according to the Ghana Police Service.

The late football player was allegedly sexually molested by a coach at Siano Soccer Academy in Accra. Over the course of last week, Ghanaians on social media launched a movement to guarantee justice is served.

The Ghana Police Service was highlighted by celebrities and influencers on X.

In a statement released on November 8, 2025, the police said that initial investigations revealed that Ransford Owusu’s mother, Ama Asantewaa, informed the Amasaman Police that her son, a former junior football player at the Siano Soccer Academy, had become ill and passed away on February 28, 2025.

She told the police that her son had told her that Anyass Ibrahim, his coach, had sexually molested him prior to his death.

The Homicide Unit of CID, the Headquarters, then took over the case. Suspect Anyass Ibrahim was taken into custody on November 4, 2025, in order to support the investigation.

After being interrogated and having his statement taken, he was released on bail to report to CID Headquarters.

According to a review of the medical reports that the dead’s mother has so far provided from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi, it appears that the deceased received treatment for diseases relating to the kidneys and liver.

Since the deceased received medical care at both the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi, the police are currently working to obtain the deceased’s medical report for confirmation.

Since previous formal demands for the reports had been denied, a court order has been obtained to be served on both hospitals.
