Later today, Judge Paul Baffoe-Bonnie will be sworn in as Chief Justice by President John Dramani Mahama.

On November 13, Parliament approved him with 163 votes in favour and 69 against.

On September 23, the President proposed Justice Baffoe-Bonnie for the position, citing his decades of service on the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court as important justifications.

Since April 22, when Justice Gertrude Torkornoo was suspended and later dismissed, he has been acting in that role.

During his November 10 appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie emphasised his commitment to maintaining judicial independence while enhancing access to justice and promised to lead an open and inclusive government.
