The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. A.S.K. Bagbin, is rumored to have predicted that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the NPP’s standard bearer in the 2024 Presidential election, however this claim has been refuted by the Parliamentary Service.
According to a website, the Speaker believes that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, and former President John Mahama will face off in the 2024 presidential election.
The website states that the Speaker made this remark during a visit to the Yagbonwura as part of the festivities for Ghana’s 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.
However, a statement made public by the Media Relations Division of the Parliamentary Service clarified that while the Speaker made mention of the two lawmakers at the aforementioned event, it was not a prediction exercise.
He said that the people of Northern Ghana should take satisfaction in the fact that they will be well represented at the top of Ghana’s political system given the environment in which he was speaking.
We are one people with a common future, the Rt. Hon. Speaker said, notwithstanding our political differences. Therefore, regardless of our political differences, our shared objective should be to fight for the welfare of all Ghanaians, the statement continued.
