Ambrose Dery, the interior minister, has extended the curfew hours for residents of Alavanyo, Nkonya, and the surrounding areas in the Oti Region by Executive Instrument (E.I).
6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. will be the new hours beginning on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Following earlier rekindled fighting between the two settlements that left some individuals dead, the curfew was implemented.
The government continues to thank the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area for their efforts to maintain peace in the area, according to a statement from Mr. Ambrose Dery. He also urged them to use the established mechanisms to settle all conflicts and disagreements.
According to the statement, “meanwhile, Government would like to reiterate that there is a ban on all persons in the two towns and their surroundings from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”
