The five candidates running for the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) platform will be vetted today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Hajia Amina Adam, widow of late MP Mahama Naser Toure, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, both filed nomination papers on Tuesday.
The remaining candidates are Mohammed Ramme, the party’s constituency chairman; Dr. Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed Sani.
Tanko Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, told Citi News on Tuesday, January 27, that the vetting process would be followed by balloting, with any concerns resolved to guarantee a smooth primary process.
“We will be vetting the five of them and then proceeding with the balloting. After that, if there is any aggrieved candidate, the aggrieved committee will sit to hear that. There are four men and a lady.”
“We want the committee to sit, if there is a need, so that we conclude the process of the vetting and balloting, then we proceed with the printing of the ballot papers for the EC to conduct a primary for us on February 7, 2026,” he said.
The Ayawaso East Constituency parliamentary by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).
