President John Dramani Mahama will depart Accra on Sunday, March 1, 2026, and travel to Arusha, Tanzania, where he will serve as the Special Guest of Honour at a solemn event on Monday to inaugurate the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights’ 2026 judicial year.
The court’s 20th anniversary will also be commemorated during the occasion.
The current President of the Republic of Ghana will be invited to speak to the AU Court for the first time.
“20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa” is the theme for the start of the judicial year.
President Mahama will meet with Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, the president of Tanzania, in Arusha.
Following Monday’s opening program, Mr. Mahama will depart Arusha. In compliance with Article 60 of the Constitution, the Vice President will serve as President during his absence.
