106 foreign people who entered Ghana unlawfully were sentenced to prison by the Accra High Court, underscoring the government’s rigorous implementation of immigration regulations.
Fifty-five of the defendants were given 28-day prison sentences by the court, while the remaining fifty-one received four-week prison sentences. They all entered guilty pleas to the illegal entry charges.
The court ordered the prisoners to be deported to their respective home nations after their terms were completed.
The accused initially appeared in court on October 25, 2025, which is when the case began. They formally entered a guilty plea to the charges on March 12, 2026.
According to police investigations, intelligence reports on October 7, 2025, stated that more than 100 foreign nationals were observed in dubious circumstances near Accra’s Kuntunse Satellite.
Officers on the scene found the people living in a nearby home.
The accused refused to reveal their genuine identities while being questioned.
After that, they were detained and brought to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department for additional examination.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused had entered Ghana between January and October 2025 and were citizens of nearby francophone nations.
None had completed the required legal papers, presented travel documents, or reported to the closest Immigration Office.
The court decided to impose jail sentences followed by deportation after authorities verified that none of the convicted persons had valid licenses to stay or work in Ghana.
