Independent Power Producer Karpowership has reversed its intention to suspend operations due to unpaid bills, according to Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor.
The Minister claims that the decision comes after the government and business representatives successfully negotiated a plan to pay off a $400 million debt owing to Karpowership.
In an interview with TV3, Dr. Jinapor reassured the public that there was no immediate risk of a power outage because the corporation has cancelled its scheduled shutdown deadline of May 18.

He classified the development as favourable, pointing out that the administration is still committed to resolving issues in the energy industry.
The Minister clarified that the unpaid debt was left over from the previous New Patriotic Party government and that it has presented serious operating difficulties.
Karpowership, which provides Ghana’s national grid with roughly 450 megawatts of electricity, had previously stated that it intended to halt operations because of nonpayment.
According to Dr. Jinapor, the removal of the shutdown notice was made possible by the parties’ recent agreement on a planned strategy to handle the debt.
The deal is anticipated to stabilise the supply of electricity and provide the government breathing room while it attempts to settle unpaid debts in the industry.
In light of worries about possible disruptions to the electrical supply, the development provides businesses and consumers with assurance.
