An Accra High Court convicted Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, guilty of unlawfully allowing unlicensed mining operations on his company’s concession in Samreboi in the Western Region and sentenced him to 20 years in prison with hard labour.
On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP and his company, Akonta Mining Company Limited, were found guilty on all charges filed against them by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, who presided over Criminal Court 4 of the High Court in Accra. Kwame Antwi, a fellow director and co-accused, was tried in absentia and is still at large.
