Five fuel companies are the subject of an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) due to alleged financial irregularities and potential cooperation with government officials.
The OSP named the firms under investigation as Platon Oil and Gas Ltd., Sentuo Oil, Akwaaba Oil, Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd., and Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd. in a Facebook post on Tuesday, April 7.
The investigation focuses on tax evasion, falsifying product kinds during depot transfers, and underreporting petroleum imports.
According to preliminary findings, certain Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) may have worked with representatives of the National Security Secretariat (NSS), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and National Petroleum Authority (NPA), allegedly using middlemen to enable illegal financial transactions.
Documents and electronic items were confiscated during court-authorized searches at the depots and related BDC offices, according to the OSP. While the inquiry is ongoing, a number of people of interest are being held.
“The investigation remains ongoing. Further updates will follow,” the post stated.
