The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced amended procedures for internal elections, with important modifications aimed at increasing openness, inclusivity, and internal democracy.
After a thorough examination of current practices, the National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on behalf of the National Council, approved the revised principles in a statement released on April 8, 2026, and signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary.
The party clarified that the changes were required due to real-world difficulties that arose throughout the continuing registration and election procedures.
The adoption of both in-person voting and the use of an official NPP e-voting platform for elections at several levels, such as polling place, electoral area, branch, and chapter, is one of the major reforms.
Clear eligibility requirements are also outlined in the guidelines, which specify that only members who have participated in the party for a minimum of two years are eligible to run for office or cast ballots in specific internal elections.
Provisions for the suspension of elections in contested areas have been developed at the polling station level, especially where issues with voter registration or access to the membership record come up.
Higher party institutions will be consulted in order to resolve such problems.
The organization and makeup of executives at various levels are further described in the document. Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Nasara Organiser, and Communications Officer are among the branch-level roles that are up for battle.
To improve party operations, provisions have been introduced for the recruitment of officers in positions like research, electoral affairs, and other support roles in addition to elected positions.
Additionally, before submitting nominations, polling station officers who want to run in higher-level elections must resign from their current posts.
The party has clarified the regulations governing cluster and special polling stations, as well as the number of polling places and electoral districts that election committees would cover, in an attempt to expedite the electoral process.
In addition, the NPP declared the creation of an ad hoc committee whose job it is to create a thorough handbook for party officers.
Osei Bonsu Amoah, Henry Nana Boakye, and Haruna Mohammed are among the prominent members of the committee, which is led by Peter Mac Manu.
The party has emphasised that the revisions are meant to guarantee a seamless, credible, and inclusive electoral process at all levels and has urged all stakeholders to get familiar with and carefully comply to the updated standards.
The NPP reiterated its dedication to maintaining its principles and fortifying internal systems via cooperation and respect for due process.
