Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has stated that it is premature to implement a load-shedding schedule despite recent power outages in sections of the country.

In the wake of the recent fire at the Ghana Grid Company substation in Akosombo, many Ghanaians have expressed concern about the erratic supply of energy, which officials attribute to ongoing repairs on critical transmission equipment.

In an interview on Sunday, April 26, he clarified that engineers are actively working on the impacted transmission lines as part of efforts to bring stability back to the national grid.

He claims that as restoration moves forward, certain places have already started to see an improvement in the power supply.

According to Dr. Ayiku’s personal view, a formal load management program would be premature given the current actions being used to address the problem.

He urged people to remain calm and reassured them that the situation is under control. He expressed hope that the regular power supply will be fully restored in the upcoming days.

A load-shedding schedule would only be taken into consideration, he continued, if things don’t get better over time.
