Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang gave the keynote lecture at the 16th Oxford Africa Conference, highlighting the importance of grounded, disciplined, and people-centered leadership in navigating a time of global disruption.

Speaking to a distinguished group of leaders, scholars, and innovators, she emphasised that although Africa continues to face obstacles, the continent also has the ability, talent, and resources to mould its own future through long-term economic transformation, institutional resilience, and credible implementation.

As part of a larger move towards sustainable economic architecture, she emphasised Ghana’s current reforms intended to stabilise the economy, lessen reliance on raw material exports, and boost value addition, particularly in crucial areas like cocoa processing.

The Vice President went on to describe important social and economic initiatives, such as the proposed Women’s Development Bank and the 24-Hour sector policy, as intentional attempts to increase opportunities and integrate marginalised groups, particularly women, into the official sector.

She pointed out that equitable progress throughout the continent still depends on giving women access to capital, skills, and resources.

Speaking about Africa’s future in technology and commerce, she emphasised the necessity for Africa to take the lead in crucial fields like artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, energy transition, and data sovereignty while highlighting the revolutionary potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

She came to the conclusion that Africa’s change will be determined not just by the extent of global disruption but also by the continent’s collective determination to organise, lead, and produce outcomes through moral leadership, robust institutions, and laws that really enhance the lives of its citizens.
