President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaian investors to act fast to capitalise on prospects in the Afram Plains, as the government works to enhance access to the area by building a new bridge over the Afram River near Ekye Amanfrom.

The initiative would end years of seclusion and unleash the Afram Plains’ enormous agricultural and economic potential, according to the President, who called it a “game-changer.”

President Mahama stated that the development goal for the region must go beyond infrastructure and concentrate on turning the enormous tract of land into a significant hub for agricultural, agro-processing, and investment during a meeting with members of the Kwahu Business Advocacy.

He clarified that because of the challenging access routes and the surrounding river systems, the Afram Plains have been virtually isolated from the rest of the nation for a long time.

“The Afram Plains is one huge expanse of land that for many years has been cut off from the rest of the country because of the difficulty in entering the Afram Plains and then the river systems that almost completely surround it,” he said.

According to President Mahama, the new bridge would greatly alter the region’s economic prospects by enabling investors to set up extensive farming operations and processing facilities.

He stated, “This new bridge over the River Afram at Ekye Amanfrom is going to be the game changer for the Afram Plains.”

Instead of letting outside investors control the developing investment market, he urged Kwahu Business Advocacy members to seize the chance.

“I’ll be happy that the Kwahu Business Advocacy group take advantage of it quickly instead of us waiting and then some foreigners will come and start establishing plantations there and putting in agro-business.”

The President stated that investors might investigate potential in crop production, value addition, and export-oriented processing.
