Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has announced that Parliament will examine the reported $1.7 billion losses associated with the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to determine whether the amount should be classified as an actual financial loss or a cost incurred in the execution of the programme.
The Speaker said he had reviewed a motion submitted by the Minority in Parliament on August 21, 2026, seeking a parliamentary inquiry into the matter. He indicated that he intends to admit the motion for consideration.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday, August 24, Alban Bagbin said the House would thoroughly examine the issue and establish the facts surrounding the reported GoldBod financial losses.
The development comes amid growing calls for transparency, accountability and financial scrutiny over the reported $1.7 billion figure linked to Ghana’s gold purchasing operations.
Meanwhile, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has urged the Minority Caucus to use all available parliamentary mechanisms to demand answers from the government and the management of the Ghana Gold Board.
Nana B said Ghanaians expect the Minority to pursue the matter and ensure that the government provides clear explanations about the reported GoldBod losses.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, he insisted that the NPP would continue demanding answers until all outstanding questions are addressed publicly and subjected to proper scrutiny.
He called on the Minority to use parliamentary questions, committee hearings, requests for official documents, motions, points of order and other legal procedures available to Parliament to investigate the matter.
According to Nana B, the Minority should also continue the campaign for transparency in the public domain until Ghanaians receive comprehensive explanations regarding the reported $1.7 billion GoldBod losses.
