President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for the construction of a major multi-storey car park and hotel complex at the Accra International Airport.
Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced the upcoming ceremony in an official statement, highlighting the government’s efforts to expand and modernise Ghana’s transport infrastructure.
According to the statement, President Mahama has overseen several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation and economic development across the country. These include the construction of Terminal 3 at Kotoka International Airport, the expansion of the Meridian Port Services (MPS) Terminal at Tema Port, and the mobilisation of US$400 million in funding for the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project.
The proposed airport development is expected to boost parking facilities, accommodation and commercial services at Accra’s major aviation hub.
The project will include a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking spaces, as well as two modern hotels targeted at international travellers, tourists and transit passengers.
A dedicated pedestrian walkway will also connect the new facility directly to the airport terminal, providing convenient and seamless access for passengers.
The development is expected to enhance the passenger experience, increase commercial activity around the airport and strengthen Accra’s position as a major aviation and business hub in West Africa.
