Builsa South Member of Parliament (MP) James Agalga has been appointed as the new Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The decision was officially communicated to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin in a letter dated August 24, 2026, and signed by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
According to the NDC, the appointment followed consultations between the party’s leadership and the Presidency and takes immediate effect.
The new parliamentary leadership change is aimed at strengthening coordination and providing effective direction for the NDC Majority Caucus as it carries out its constitutional and parliamentary duties.
In the letter, the NDC expressed confidence that James Agalga would work closely with the Speaker and Members of Parliament to advance the business of Parliament and promote the national interest.
The party said Agalga’s appointment is expected to provide the leadership required to ensure the effective functioning of the NDC Majority Caucus and support the legislative agenda of the government.
The letter was formally addressed to Speaker Alban Bagbin and signed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on behalf of the NDC leadership.
