The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has vowed to carry out its scheduled picket at the Ministry of Education today, Thursday, June 11, despite new assurances from government representatives regarding unpaid amounts owed to its members under the Free Senior High School program.

The association is requesting that vendors of school clothes, home dresses, and uniforms that have been supplied to public senior high schools since 2023 be paid GH¢50 million.

The decision to move forward comes after a meeting with representatives of the Free SHS Secretariat on Wednesday, June 10, where the suppliers were informed about the efforts being made to handle their claims and were advised to be patient.

Emmanuel Ayivor, the association’s president, informed the media that the conference had not resulted in the specific promises that members were looking for.

He said that although members appreciated the interaction with the Free SHS Secretariat, they were nevertheless unhappy with the ongoing hold-ups and were resolved to continue the demonstration until real steps were taken to pay off the remaining debt.

In a statement released on June 3, NAIS claimed that the protracted delay in paying debts owed to its members was the reason for the picket, pointing out that despite numerous engagements and appeals to the appropriate authorities, the government’s repeated promises had not resulted in actual payments.

The Ministry of Education will host a picket with the topic “Delayed Payment of School Uniform Contracts,” and NAIS is urging all of its members to take part.
