Three individuals have been detained by the Upper East Regional Police Command in Bolgatanga on suspicion of participating in a human trafficking scheme that allegedly coerced young women into prostitution in Gbane, Talensi District.
The suspects, Faith Levy, Peace Agbede, and Favour Sunday Udo, are charged with enticing Nigerian victims with possibilities in Ghana’s movie industry.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the victims was allegedly recruited in Nigeria by Peace Agbede, who offered to support her in pursuing a career in movies because of her looks.
However, the victim was allegedly transported to Gbane-Tongo upon arrival in Ghana and coerced into prostitution.
The victim was forced to pay her suspected handler GH¢400 per day, according to investigators.
On June 26, 2026, the victim gave birth, which is said to have made matters worse.
According to the police, the accused later tried to convince her to sell the newborn to a buyer for GH¢20,000.
During a check of one of the suspects’ rooms, 265 unused condoms and sales record books with many names were found.
During the operation, four young women between the ages of eighteen and twenty were also saved by the police.
Currently detained by the police, the suspects are anticipated to appear in court as the investigation progresses.
