The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park employees at Kotoka International Airport (Accra International Airport) over allegations of extorting money from passengers, as part of efforts to improve customer service and strengthen accountability at Ghana’s busiest airport.

The decision forms part of the company’s ongoing campaign to eliminate airport extortion, misconduct, and unethical practices, while ensuring travelers enjoy a safe, secure, and seamless airport experience.

The announcement was made by GACL Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, during a visit by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation to the airport on Tuesday.

According to Mrs. Opare, the disciplinary action followed several complaints from passengers, which enabled airport management to identify the individuals allegedly involved in the unlawful acts.

She disclosed that the two car park workers were immediately dismissed after investigations confirmed their identities.

“Just about two weeks ago, we’ve had two people expelled from the airport in the car park workers who asked passengers for money. And instantly, because we were able to identify and zero in on the specific people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately. So we are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she stated.

The Managing Director reaffirmed Ghana Airports Company Limited’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, transparency, and customer satisfaction across all airport operations.

She also encouraged passengers and members of the public to promptly report any cases of extortion, bribery, harassment, or unprofessional conduct involving airport staff. According to her, such reports will help management investigate complaints quickly and take appropriate disciplinary action against offenders.

The dismissal of the two employees highlights GACL’s renewed commitment to enhancing airport security, passenger safety, service delivery, and operational excellence at Kotoka International Airport, while protecting Ghana’s reputation as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.
