The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a special needs student.
The two suspects have also been handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with investigations into the reported incident, according to the GES.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the GES disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the student, who is a special needs learner and reportedly on medication, suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged incident.
The student was said to have required medical attention during the period when the alleged assault reportedly occurred.
The Ghana Education Service said a thorough investigation is currently underway to establish the facts surrounding the case.
The Service explained that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against those found culpable in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The GES has also directed all staff of educational institutions to maintain the highest standards of professionalism while protecting the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students.
Management stressed that it would not tolerate any behaviour that places students at risk or compromises their welfare.
The Education Service has assured parents, guardians and the general public that the Bolgatanga Girls SHS alleged sexual assault case is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
