The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of the newly enskinned Chief of Yidani, Naa Ntimla Nwenisim, and his son, Ntimla Bilaga.

The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Majejiba Magne and 34-year-old Haruna Nlegle. According to the Ghana Police Service, their arrest followed intelligence gathered as part of investigations into the deadly attack.

The Yidani chief and his son were killed on August 14, 2026, after three unidentified armed men allegedly stormed their residence at approximately 3:00 a.m.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the attackers entered the compound and demanded to be taken to the chief’s room. After their demand was reportedly rejected, the suspects allegedly fired a gunshot into the roof of a nearby room before forcing their way into the chief’s room.

The armed attackers then allegedly opened fire on the chief and his son, resulting in their deaths.

A post-mortem examination conducted on August 17 at the Tamale Teaching Hospital reportedly established that both victims sustained multiple injuries consistent with shotgun attacks. The examination indicated that they died from severe injuries and haemorrhagic shock.

Suspects

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) deployed a special operations team from Police Headquarters to support the investigation. Security patrols were also increased in Yidani and surrounding communities in an effort to prevent further incidents and maintain public safety.

The Northern Regional Police Command said investigators received credible intelligence on August 26 that two individuals suspected of involvement in the murders were travelling from Dombine in the Gushegu District towards Chereponi.

The Gushegu Police subsequently alerted their colleagues in Chereponi. Officers intercepted the suspects and arrested them before transferring them to the Yendi Divisional Police Command.

The two suspects have reportedly been remanded in police custody to assist investigators as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder of the Yidani chief and his son.

The Northern Regional Police Command said investigations remain ongoing, with police working to determine the full circumstances of the attack and identify, apprehend and prosecute any other individuals who may have participated in the alleged crime.

The police have appealed to residents of Yidani, Dombine, Gushegu, Chereponi and nearby communities to provide credible information that could assist investigators in solving the case.

Authorities assured residents that information provided to the police would be handled with confidentiality and urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers.

The Police Command has also appealed to the bereaved family, the youth and residents of the affected communities to remain calm and avoid revenge attacks, reprisals or vigilantism.

The police stressed that anyone found culpable in connection with the murders will face the full force of the law following due legal process.
