The Minister of Works And Housing, Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), has undertaken a familiarisation visit to the Achimota-Abofu area in the Greater Accra Region to assess the progress of major storm drain construction works being carried out under the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) Project.

The visit formed part of efforts by the Ministry to monitor ongoing drainage and flood control projects in Accra and ensure that construction works are progressing as expected.

During the visit, the Minister inspected the ongoing construction of major storm drains designed to improve stormwater management and reduce flooding in communities within the Achimota-Abofu area.

The GARID Project is focused on strengthening flood resilience and drainage infrastructure in Greater Accra, particularly in communities that are vulnerable to flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

The inspection by Ahmed Ibrahim is expected to provide an opportunity for the Ministry to assess the progress of the works, identify challenges affecting construction and ensure that the project delivers its intended benefits to residents.

Improved storm drainage infrastructure remains an important component of efforts to address flooding in Accra, protect communities and improve urban resilience across the Greater Accra Region.

The government continues to invest in infrastructure projects aimed at improving drainage systems and reducing the impact of flooding on homes, businesses, roads and other critical infrastructure.
