National Democratic Congress (NDC) national chairman aspirant Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed confidence in winning the party’s upcoming national chairmanship election despite concerns that his earlier criticism of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi could affect his chances.

Vanderpuye made the remarks during a visit to the Okaikwei South constituency on Sunday, October 25, 2026, where he interacted with party members and commended them for maintaining peace during the constituency executive elections.

He described his campaign visits as encouraging, noting that the atmosphere within the party remained cordial and demonstrated a strong sense of unity.

NDC Chairmanship Election: Vanderpuye Eyes Victory

Vanderpuye said the NDC’s regional executive elections were scheduled for November 14, 2026, while the national executive elections would take place on December 19, 2026.

He expressed optimism about his chances of becoming the party’s next national chairman, citing the positive reception he had received during his constituency engagements.

The aspirant also urged party members to resolve internal disagreements peacefully and unite after the elections to strengthen the NDC ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Vanderpuye Addresses Sammy Gyamfi Controversy

His confidence comes amid discussions about comments he made concerning Sammy Gyamfi during a television discussion on August 20, 2026.

The controversy followed an exchange between Gyamfi and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the Government Accountability Series. The GoldBod CEO criticised the Minority Leader during a dispute over an alleged US$1.7 billion loss linked to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Vanderpuye acknowledged Gyamfi’s communication abilities but argued that he would have adopted a different tone when responding to the Minority Leader, particularly during a public engagement.

He subsequently apologised to Gyamfi and the NDC, explaining that his comments were not intended to undermine the GoldBod CEO or support attacks against him.

Global InfoAnalytics Director Comments on NDC Chairmanship Race

Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has also weighed in on the contest, describing Vanderpuye as a leading candidate for the NDC national chairmanship position.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints programme on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Dankwah indicated that Vanderpuye appeared well-positioned in the race.

His assessment adds to ongoing discussions about the candidates seeking to lead the NDC as the party prepares for its national executive elections.

NDC Seeks Unity Ahead of 2028 Elections

Vanderpuye’s campaign comes at a critical time for the NDC as it works to complete its internal elections and strengthen its grassroots structures.

He has called for reconciliation among party members, emphasising that unity after the internal elections will be essential to the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.

The outcome of the national chairmanship contest is expected to shape the party’s leadership and organisational direction in the coming years.
