Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency in the Greater Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has given the campaign to remove Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta from office a new twist.

The MP claims that the two finance minister’s assistants have joined the chorus calling for the dismissal of their boss due to his appalling handling of the economy.

According to Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, the two deputies, Dr. John Kumah, MP for the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region and Abena Osei Asare, MP for the Atiwa East Constituency in the Eastern Region, endorse calls for the finance minister to be fired.

He claimed that the decision to fire the finance minister was made by the majority of the parliament, not just a minority.

He claimed that out of respect for the president, the caucus agreed to follow his directive to have the finance minister sign the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The majority of the MPs believed that the president had been gracious to them, the majority of the MPs said, so “we decided to lay back because of the caucus’ esteem for the president.”

He said, “There was no need to disobey such a figure like the president because some of us got the opportunity to serve in government because the president spotted abilities in us.

When the subject was in the president’s hands, he added, “It was bad for the finance minister to come out and say many people do not comprehend the work he does.”

“As the minister of finance, no one needs to tell me the horrors of the cedi depreciation, which has become an albatross on the neck of our local industries and the high cost of living for our residents,” Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta stated in response to the MPs’ attempt to have him removed.

At a forum hosted by the Association of Ghana Industries, the finance minister made this remark to business leaders (AGI).

“We cannot continue to be a nation of importers,” Mr. Ofori-Atta remarked.

On Okay FM in Accra on November 9, 2022, Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency MP Sylvester Tetteh criticized the finance minister for his response to the MPs’ call for the minister to be fired.

He claimed that saving the country is a group effort rather than an individual one.
