George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organiser for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is disputing allegations that the party has been busing potential voters to the few voter registration locations.
He claimed that the NPP is actually involved in such behavior before accusing them in error.
“We have seen films of the NPP visiting neighborhoods and giving money to people who have reached the age of 18 in order to register. Have you ever seen a video of an NDC employee busing someone? He queried.
Opare Addo also acknowledged that it is acceptable for people to ask their leaders for assistance if they are experiencing financial difficulties.
“When you are the community’s leaders and one of its members contacts you about registration taking place in a community that is far from where they are. So, we organized ourselves. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but could you help us with transportation?” he asked.
Additionally, Opare Addo emphasized that the NDC would not waste its time attending meetings of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), since their comments would not be taken into consideration.
He highlighted the actions of EC Boss Jean Mensa as the reason they decided against joining IPAC.
“We have been told by Jean Mensa that IPAC cannot advise her on things we have to do. On many occasions, we have gone on IPAC meetings and made some suggestions and Jean Mensa have been bold enough to tell us that she doesn’t need our suggestions. We don’t see the need to attend IPAC,” he said.
Opare Addo’s remarks come amid claims that the NDC and the NPP are using voter mobilization strategies, like as busing people to registration centers and giving potential voters money incentives.
