Vote of censure by Minority based on incorrect information and propaganda – Majority

Even though they want the minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) to bring a vote of censure against Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Caucus in Parliament has said that it will not do so.

The Caucus claims that the Motion is founded on misleading information, propaganda, and unjustified arguments.

The Majority Caucus declared, “The Minority viewpoint might look like ours, but it’s not the same.

The MP for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, spoke to the media on Thursday, November 10 and said that the sentiment was that the Minister’s support has dwindled and he must resign. He was speaking on behalf of the original 80 NPP MPs who had called for his expulsion.

But he asserted that the Minority’s justifications for the Finance Minister’s dismissal are significantly dissimilar from those of the Majority.

He said that making around ten claims against the Minister that border on criminality without giving him the chance to respond is politicized and pedestrian, and that’s why it won’t support the resolution for a vote of censure.

But for COVD and the Russia and Ukraine war, he was doing extremely well, and the economy was doing extremely well, the speaker claimed.

However, “it is the Finance Ministry when individuals are under pressure and have no knowledge of the logic of competence and hard work and when they lose confidence, it impacts the markets and the people’s pockets”

But we don’t have anything against the Minister personally.

“Our position is clear that he must resign if confidence in him has declined, but that is not the same as what the NDC is demanding,” he continued.

When they requested the dismissal of the Minister of Finance, the NPP MPs admitted they had returned to their old stance.

Therefore, the Caucus requests that Ofori-Atta not be the one to head the appropriation as well as the one to give the 2023 Budget statement to Parliament, Dr. Ayew stated.

The MPs reversed their vote and agreed that Ofori-Atta should provide the budget and the appropriation as well as finalize the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before stepping down after meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo in response to their demand for the firing.

Dr. Ayew asserts that the side has returned to its initial stance on the issue, nonetheless.
