Multiple shops located behind Kantamanto in Accra’s CMB area were destroyed by a severe fire that also destroyed commodities worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The fire, which started about 5:00 am on Sunday, has not yet been given a specific cause. The flames had already engulfed many establishments when the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) quickly rushed firefighters to the spot.
A number of flammable items were found at the scene of the fire, according to GNFS Public Relations Officer ADO1 Alex Nartey. The fire completely destroyed several establishments despite the efforts of the firefighters, leaving the owners saddened and dissatisfied. Many of them vented their anger at the happening.
The GNFS is asking traders to use caution while using electrical appliances and to avoid keeping combustible goods in their stores in reaction to this event.
This terrible incident is the second significant fire incident to take place at the CMB market recently.
