The wife of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, has accepted an unequivocal apology from the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, for making a false claim that she has an SUV in her official convoy specifically for carrying her makeup artists.
Mr. Gyamfi stated on Neat FM in Accra that Mrs. Bawumia travels with her cosmetic artists and accessories in a V8 Landcruiser.
“…There is another person; her name is Samira Bawumia. Did you know that she always travels in a brand-new Landcruiser that is accompanied by makeup artists and makeup? Who is financing that? On November 7th, 2022, Mr. Gyamfi made his initial claim about the taxpayer.
He was contrasting the current financial difficulties with the unrestrained spending by political leaders.
The vice president’s wife’s attorneys, Mr. Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, later demanded a retraction and an apology for what they called false remarks in a letter dated November 9, 2022.
They stated in the letter that they wanted Mr. Gyamfi to issue the retraction and apologies on the same program where he unreservedly spread the untrue claim.
The letter, addressed to the management of Neat FM, said that Mrs. Samira Bawumia had come across as “insensitive, wasteful, and unreasonable” as a result of Mr. Gyamfi’s remarks and the radio host’s refusal to stop him.
Speaking once more on the Neat FM program, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi stated, “I retract my remarks and I claim the second lady’s convoy has no Landcruiser that is for her makeup.” This was done in accordance with the requirements of the law.
According to her office, there is no V8 that sells makeup kits for the second lady, Sammy Gyamfi emphasized. “I must issue this retraction; it is only right.”
During the live radio interview conducted over the phone, he remarked, “I profoundly apologize to the second lady of Ghana.”
Mr. Kwame Twum, a “thoroughly educated and competent” lawyer who is also a member of Mrs. Bawumia’s team and works for the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), allegedly questioned him about the claim and informed him that it was untrue.
“Kwame is the one in whom I have faith. As soon as he said that, I said, “No problem. I’ll apologize when I return to the radio program,” he said.
He further mentioned that Mrs. Bawumia performs her own makeup, according to reliable information from Kwame Twum. “Eii! He expressed his response to the information, “If that’s the case, our lady Samira Bawumia is highly skilled from what we see.”
In the meantime, Mr. Gyamfi submitted his nomination for reelection as the National Communications Officer of the NDC on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
