The fate of Chinese Galamsey queen En Huang, also known as Aisha Huang, will be decided on December 4, 2023, according to the Accra High Court.
After returning to Ghana and being accused of participating in unlawful mining operations (galamsey), Aisha Huang is now being charged in the Accra High Court.
Four counts are brought against her: illegally entering the country while being denied admission; conducting a mining activity without a permit; enabling the participation of those involved in a mining operation; and illegally hiring foreigners.
In all but one of the three charges, she entered a not guilty plea. Since then, she has been found guilty of the charged offense, with sentencing postponed until the conclusion of the trial.
After the prosecution and defense formally concluded their cases and informed the court that they had delivered their final arguments, the judgment date was established.
The prosecution called 11 witnesses in total to the witness stand to support their claims. On the other side, Aisha Huang steadfastly defended her innocence following the reading of her witness statement in open court on Monday, July 10, 2023.
She denied taking part in any mining-related or unlawful mining activity. She claims that neither she nor her company has ever worked in the mining industry.
“Neither my business nor I have mined or assisted in mining in any way by any individual or group of individuals.
“I do not know and have not been to any of the sites captured in the videos, pictures and maps tendered in evidence by the prosecution witnesses,” she told the court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.
She maintained her not guilty plea on all three counts and insisted that the prosecution’s proof was incorrect.
