Mrs. Enyonam A. Apetorgbor, an advocate for education and philanthropy, has given 630 mono desks worth GHS201,000 to a number of schools in the Keta town of the Volta Region.

The contribution made under the auspices of the Keta Education Fund (KEF) is a part of initiatives to support local underfunded schools in order to improve teaching and learning.

KEF is a private initiative with the specific goal of addressing critical infrastructural needs and school supplies in the municipality, according to Mrs. Enyonam Apetorgbor, a native of Dzelukope, who spoke at the ceremony to present the mono desks and officially launch KEF at Abor in the Volta Region.

She claimed that her decision to donate the mono desks to the needy schools was motivated by the declining quality of education in the afflicted institutions where students were forced to sit on bare floorboards to receive instruction.

The lack of electricity in some localities, including Lawoshime, Agorvinu, Hagodzi, and Mamime, was mentioned by Mrs. Apetorgbor. Teachers are discouraged from accepting posts to these locations because they find the communities unappealing places to work.

She emphasized that KEF is committed to making sure that students feel at ease in their classrooms so that teachers’ jobs are made easier.

The One Heart Fund of China, Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited, Santa Shipping, Visal Reinsurance, Hu Bei Geology & Engineering Company Ltd of China, and HRH Togbe Afede XIV were among the organizations with which Mrs. Apetorgbor expressed her regret for the inadequate learning facilities in the schools and promised to take action as soon as possible.

Additionally, she urged the government to support the building of a feeder road that would connect Hatorgodo, Lawoshime, Mamime, Hagodzi, and Agorvinu.

“The Government should urgently make it possible for villages beyond the river to have access to energy.

I would want to request that Dr. Senanu Dzokoto, our regional director of health, send nurses to Lawoshime to staff the CHIP Compound, which has been vacant since it was first commissioned.

Mrs. Apetorgbor made an appeal to corporate organizations to help her fix the footbridges in these impoverished neighborhoods so the kids can walk to school securely rather than cross the river every morning and evening.

The desks’ recipient, Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, praised the benefactor for the thoughtful act.

He claimed that the desks will significantly increase enrollment in the municipality’s schools while reducing the current deficit.

He lamented the deterioration of education in the municipality and advised students at the benefiting schools to work hard in the classroom in order to advance Keta’s future development.

In order for the desks to last their entire lifespans, Mr. Gemegah urged educators and students to properly care for them.

The National Democratic Congress Chairman for the Keta Constituency, Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Gerhard Avudzivi, the Volta Regional Director of Health, Dr. Senanu Dzokoto, and Assembly members from the Keta Municipality were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
