Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban S. K. Bagbin exulted in Ghana’s first victory over South Korea in the ongoing World Cup, Qatar 2022.

The Speaker was seen during the game silently watching the action in his kaftan and headgear, undoubtedly praying for a victory as the Stars withstand Korean siege.

After Ghana scored its third goal, the game simply had to end, and the Speaker reacted by donning his favourite Black Stars replica jersey.

Speaker Bagbin was unable to contain himself and “ran onto the field” to join the players and Ghanaian soccer fans in celebration when the referee blew the final whistle, widely pumping the air with his fist.

The Black Stars defeated South Korea 3-2 in a thrilling match thanks to two goals from Mohammed Kudus, giving them their first victory in World Cup Group H.

In the first 20 minutes, South Korea exerted the most pressure, forcing seven corners, but Mohammed Salisu gave the Black Stars the lead against the flow of play following a goalmouth melee.

A gorgeous left-side cross from Jordan Ayew was met by Kudus’ precise glancing header in the 34th minute, doubling the lead.

Around the hour mark, Cho Gue Song scored two quick headers to even the score again for South Korea. Kudus then added his second goal of the match with a well-placed finish in the 68th minute to make it 3-2.

Late in the game, Salisu cleared off the line to ensure that the Black Stars left the Education City Stadium with all three points, maintaining Ghana’s chances of moving on to the knockout rounds.

Ghana can control its own destiny in terms of advancing to the knockout stages going into the last game against Uruguay on Friday thanks to The Stars’ first victory of the tournament.

South Korea needs to defeat Portugal in their final group encounter on Friday in order to advance to the knockout stages.
