Pius Enam Hadzide, CEO of the National Young Authority (NYA), has urged the youth of Ghana to prioritize becoming patriotic citizens over money as the primary means of success in life.
According to him, the lack of youth patriotism in the majority of developing nations has slowed down the nation’s economic development.
The head of NYA revealed this as Ghana joined the rest of the globe in Accra on December 5, 2022, to observe International Volunteering Day 2022, which this year’s theme was “Solidarity via Volunteerism.”
The United General Assembly’s resolution 40/212, which established December 8 as International Volunteering Day (IVD), urged the government and other stakeholders to recognize volunteering and all of its positive effects by raising public awareness of the value of volunteerism services provided around the world.
The CEO of NYA emphasized that Ghanaian youth must have their country at heart and uphold the honor of their motherland because doing so will leave a legacy that will endure forever. He swiftly added that in order to help kids establish themselves in terms of work, socialization, and encouragement, leaders should build avenues for them to do so.
According to Mr. Hadzide, the celebration’s theme this year, “soliciting via volunteering,” is a rallying cry for everyone to recognize the importance of volunteers in accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Knowing the value of volunteerism among our children, the National Youth Authority (NYA) launched the National Youth Volunteering Program (NYVP) to instill in young people a sense of patriotism, nationalism, and civic duty. he observed
However, the NYVP allows young people to volunteer in a variety of communities under the modules of Youth Development, Education, Gender Mainstreaming, and Infrastructure. These services are provided in the spirit of nationalism and volunteerism, and they aid in localizing the nation’s efforts and contributions to achieving the SDGs.
The country’s volunteer organizations have made significant contributions to national growth. For instance, during the CWD-19 pandemic, some volunteer organizations distributed vital public health information by distributing necessities like PPE and food during lockdown. Mr. Hadzide revealed.
He urged all Ghanaians to take inspiration from the many people who give of themselves to volunteer work and help resolve some contributions free and proactive to change circumstances for the better in the future.
