In order to make liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) more accessible to Ghanaians and to guarantee clean cooking throughout the nation, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has hinted that it will ask Cabinet for its cooperation in doing so.

This statement was made by Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, during his remarks at the Accra launch of the National Awareness and Sensitization Campaign on the Use of LPG.

He asserts that if the taxes on the goods are eliminated, the goal of achieving 50% LPG penetration with the introduction of the Cylinder Recirculation Module (CRM) will be accomplished.

As the cylinder bottling company will own the cylinders and afterwards supply them to the customers, he claimed that the NPA intended to use the CRM to make LPG affordable and available throughout the nation.

The safety of the cylinders would be ensured, he continued, and distribution will be pushed to the country’s distant regions.

In order to ensure that residents of these areas have access to reasonably priced LPG, he urged investors to come to the northern region and set up a cylinder bottling business in exchange for a rebate.

“I will call on investors wanting to invest in the North East and Upper East Regions in the region of a cylinder bottling facility to gain some tax holidays,” he promises.

Samira Bawumia, the wife of the vice president and the ambassador for the clean cooking campaign, praised NPA and the Ministry of Energy for their efforts to make LPG accessible and affordable for Ghanaians as part of the clean cooking campaign.
