If re-elected president on December 7th, former president John Mahama has pledged to lower the cost of the Hajj journey for the Muslim population in Ghana, guaranteeing that no one is left behind.
On Sunday, June 16, 2024, Mr. Mahama pledged to fulfill the agreement when he attended the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah group for Eid prayers.
He stated that many ordinary Muslims find it difficult to make the financial commitment necessary to perform the Hajj because of its present high cost.
He mentioned how much more reasonable Hajj fares were when he was President, at GH¢11,900.00. As a result, he found it depressing that the cost had risen to GH¢75,000.00, forcing many to look for other ways to make their pilgrimage.
Mr. Mahama declared that, should he be elected president, he would lower the cost of the Hajj journey because he fully recognizes its value and the need to make it accessible to everyone.
