In connection with the reported killing of a Chinese man in Watereso, in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, three suspects have been taken into custody by the police.

The suspects, Kwadwo Mensah, 32, Robert Agyei, 29, and Abdullah Mohammed, 45, were identified as suspected illicit gold miners, or galamseyers.

They were intended to be Chinese laborers, including 52-year-old miner Yao Xian.

A police source reports that at 11:00 AM in Manso Watreso, Xian was shot in the chest by an unidentified attacker while riding a motorcycle.

The Chinese, who had a deep gash on his chest that appeared to have been caused by a gunshot, was discovered in a nearby bush on the Watreso Motor Road, according to the source. He was wearing a club and a t-shirt over black pants.

According to the report, searches were carried out in each of the suspects’ rooms, and Robert Agyei’s room had a single pump action gun (ASAR 2883 2014) loaded with seven rounds of live “AA” ammunition.

The source claims that although Agyei informed the authorities the gun had never been discharged before, a closer look and investigation of the weapon revealed otherwise.

Despite not robbing the Chinese of any goods, the source claimed that several of the suspects were on the run.
