National Democratic Congress (NDC) financier Alfred Agbesi Woyome has returned to the spotlight after an eight-year absence in an attempt to advocate for a seat in the upcoming NDC administration.

Woyome’s comeback to the spotlight is noteworthy because of his affiliation with the party and the issue surrounding his name.

In 2012, Woyome was at the heart of a huge scandal because he was suspected of obtaining a hefty judgment debt of GH¢51.2 million from the government without a legitimate contract.

Following the scandal and a drawn-out legal battle, Woyome was finally ordered to reimburse the money.

Numerous people were outraged by the episode, which also hurt the NDC’s credibility.

In the present, Woyome is once again in the headlines, this time for his opinions on the election reforms proposed by the NDC.

Alfred Woyome made a spectacular comeback to the public spotlight over the weekend, this time at the Tesano Police Depot, home of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) collation center.

Woyome’s abrupt entrance caused a heated argument and uncertainty during the collation of the results for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency. He purposefully interfered with the collation process and frustrated it without providing any concrete justification.

He got into a fight with NPP executives and Jeff Konadu Addo, the party’s Eastern Regional Chairman, and the police had to step in to diffuse the situation.

Some people resisted Woyome’s presence at the center right after Peter Otunkor, the former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, departed the Collation Hall, which resulted in a physical conflict.

Officials found it difficult to keep the peace during the altercation, which delayed the collation process.

The presence of Party members from the NDC and NPP, who had assembled at the center to observe the results, further compounded the situation.

As broadcast live by television stations in the hall, his activities at the Tesano Police Depot collation center almost descended into chaos.

It’s interesting to note that Woyome’s involvement helped the NDC obtain an injunction to stop the compilation of the parliamentary results from Nsawam-Adoagyiri and other currently pending results.

However, he has come under fire from many members of the public for going into hiding when the NDC was having trouble in opposition and then coming out to celebrate winning the general elections in 2024.
