Dr. Cassiiel Ato Forson, the minority leader in parliament, has strongly warned the government that it will be held responsible for any unmet promises between January 1 and January 7, 2025.
He made these comments in reaction to the Finance Minister’s refusal to release a first-quarter 2025 mini-budget.
In a press conference held in Parliament following the House’s adjournment until January 2, Dr. Ato Forson voiced grave worries regarding the government’s inadequate readiness to guarantee the economy’s seamless functioning at the beginning of the new year.
He emphasized that the Ghanaian people may be subjected to needless burdens if there were no mini-budget to disrupt important services and duties.
“The Vice President can present the expenditure in advance of appropriation to this House after 7 January 2025, following his swearing-in, and this House will be properly constituted to expedite its approval.”
“While we are very disappointed, we want to caution the outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government that they will be responsible for all unmet commitments and obligations of the state from 1 January onwards,” he stated.
Dr. Ato Forson called the situation a governance failure and urged the government to act quickly to avoid causing unnecessary suffering.
He reaffirmed his party’s resolve to hold the administration responsible, emphasizing that openness and forethought are essential to preserving public trust.
