Mohammed Abdullai, a 39-year-old businessman accused of stealing air conditioning supplies from the New Bank of Ghana Building project at Ridge, has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

Her Honor Susana Eduful (Mrs.), who is presiding over the matter, gave Abdullai GHC 60,000 bail with two sureties.

The court mandated that the sureties, one of whom had to be a direct relative of the accused, make at least GHC 3,000 a month.

In violation of Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29) Section 124(1), Abdullai entered a guilty plea to two counts of theft.

Leslie Kwesi Clarke, the Safety Officer at the building site, reported the case on October 21, 2024, according to Detective Inspector Frederick Mensah of the Adabraka District CID.

With two other people’s help, Clarke captured Abdullai and turned him over to the police, along with a bag full of stolen goods.

According to investigations, eight pieces of Amaflex rubber tubing and copper pipes worth GHC 500 and GHC 3,600, respectively, were taken from the ninth level of the building by Abdullai, a former worker at the site who was fired in 2023.

Fox Cooling Company, which is in charge of the site’s air conditioning installations, owned these goods.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that Abdullai had come to the location with the intention of stealing, not to find a friend as he had first claimed.

Witness Leslie Akwesi Clarke attested to receiving a call from military officials manning the location at approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 21.

Three coils of 45-meter copper pipes and rubber coverings taken from the eighth-floor external air conditioners were used by the authorities to apprehend Abdullai.

After that, Clarke gave the police Abdullai and the stolen goods so they could conduct additional research.

As the court considers its options, the case is expected to proceed.

Leslie Kwesi Clarke, the complainant, is the Safety Officer at the New Bank of Ghana Building Project, the prosecution told the court under the direction of Inspector Godwin Wemegah.

The defendant, Mohammed Abdullai, a former site worker who now dwells there, was performing installation work. He took copper pipes worth GHC 3,600 and eight pieces of Amaflex tubing worth GHC 500.

Abdullai was seen carrying a black bag filled with the stolen goods by a soldier stationed at the main gate. He was detained right away after failing to give a plausible explanation when questioned.

The stolen goods and the suspect were turned over to the police.

Abdullai was charged with stealing and hauled before the court after investigations.
