A dead KNUST student was discovered on campus.

On the campus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, a female student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences was found dead.

According to reports, Joana Deladem Yabani, who is thought to be 22 years old, was discovered dead outside the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at approximately five in the morning.

She was taken to the University Health Services by several good samaritans in an attempt to save her life, but the medical staff who were on duty at the time declared her dead upon arrival.

Although Joana’s cause of death was not immediately determined, rumors circulating indicate that she might have been killed.

“The university has officially informed her family, and we extend our deepest condolences to them during this difficult time,” he wrote, adding that investigations into the case are currently underway.

“A comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

“We wish to assure the university community and the public of our unwavering commitment to safety and well-being of all students and staff,” advising against the spread of false information about the death.

“We urge everyone to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time. We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds,” he indicated.

In the meantime, the police begin investigating a KNUST student’s death. One individual was taken into custody.

One person has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in relation to the death of a 21-year-old Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) student enrolled in Level 400 Biological Science.

According to preliminary investigation, the deceased, Yabane Deladem Aku, was discovered unconscious behind the Central Laboratory on campus early this morning, February 27, 2025.

Medical officials from KNUST Hospital declared her dead after examining the body on the spot and transferring it to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The body was later examined by the police, who found evidence of brutality.

After additional crime scene inspections, the suspect, Daniel Tuffour, was taken into jail and is presently cooperating with the inquiry.

The deceased’s family has been personally contacted by the Inspector-General of Police to offer their condolences and reassure them that justice will be served.

He also discussed with the university community how the police and the university should cooperate to improve safety for all students.
