Today, Monday, March 10, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to travel to Burkina Faso for a working visit.

To improve bilateral ties between the neighboring countries, President Mahama will meet with Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso when he is in Ouagadougou.

Given Ghana and Burkina Faso’s close historical and geographic ties, the talks will center on strengthening cooperation in areas of shared interest.

It is anticipated that the two leaders would also discuss sub-regional stability, global geopolitical trends, and the security situation in the Sahel.

It is expected that their meeting will strengthen strategic cooperation between the two nations because of their similar viewpoints on important global governance issues.

Following his election victory on December 7, 2024, President Mahama took office on January 7, 2025, and this is his first official visit to Burkina Faso.

His visit demonstrates Ghana’s dedication to regional cooperation and diplomacy with its neighbors in West Africa.

The purpose of President Mahama’s visit is to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic relations with its neighbors in ECOWAS and address regional security issues, especially those pertaining to the recently formed Alliance of Sahel States.

With stops in three Sahelian nations, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, he started his good neighbourliness tour this weekend.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, revealed in February that President Mahama had led talks to assist Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso in reintegrating into ECOWAS.
