‘Excellent’ by Kojo Blak was left out of this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards, according to Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, the organization’s organizers.

A concern expressed by Kelvyn Boy, who was on the broadcast, prompted his response.

On Hitz FM’s morning show, Daybreak Hitz, which was presented by Andy Dosty, Robert clarified the situation by telling Kelvyn, who was also on the show, that Kojo Blak’s song “Excellent” was left off the list since it was released near the end of the year (January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024).

He pointed out that the song’s delayed release prevented it from gaining enough traction to rival other songs nominated in the different categories.

“If you release a song and we have a deadline for the year and a review, if after two weeks, so to say, the song hasn’t garnered enough airplay, publicity streams whatsoever, what’s going to happen is that in the category that it’s going to be put into, if you consider all the songs that are in that particular basket, so some songs are going to have advantage over that particular song,” he said.

“So what it means is that ,if you end up having let’s say, 20 songs in a particular category, in this particular case Afrobeats, right, then you now say this song excellence in the year under review, not in January, not in February, that is in. By 31 December, what is its performance in comparison to the songs that have been selected in that particular category?” he continued.

Nonetheless, Robert Klah recognized the success of Kojo Blak’s “Excellent” song in 2025, which is outside of the year.

“Anyone would tell you that ‘Excellent’ is a big song if you asked them about it today, March. Since it’s a popular song, no one is debating it. However, was it as large as it was on December 31st?” he asked.

“I’m just trying to establish clarity,” Robert said in closing. After cutting it off, we attempt to obtain the numbers or parameters we need in order to analyze.”

The TGMA’s selection procedure is clarified by Robert Klah’s explanation, which emphasizes the significance of timing and performance indicators in choosing nominees.

Even though “Excellent” by Kojo Blak was a hit song, its candidacy for a nomination was ultimately impacted by its release date and performance statistics.
