A street campaign in the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District has been launched by representatives of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in an attempt to increase public knowledge of Phase II of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF).
Key locations were included in the sensitization exercise, including the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools and the Kwasiadwaso Market, where an AMA team spoke to commuters, merchants, drivers, and bystanders about the significance of taking climate action. They also distributed stickers and flyers and displayed placards with messages intended to inspire young people to join the campaign.

Some of the messages displayed on the placards read: “Join the fight for climate justice—today.” “Everyone has a role to play. No matter your background, your voice makes a difference,” and “AMA announces Youth Climate Action Fund to drive sustainable change—Apply now.”
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Bensmith Afful, the Project’s Acting Coordinator, said the campaign’s goal was to inform the public—especially young people and market women—about climate change mitigation initiatives and optimal waste management techniques.

Mr. Afful emphasized that the YCAF offers microgrants for climate-related projects to young people between the ages of 15 and 24 that range from $1,000 to $5,000.
He encouraged interested candidates to download their application forms from the official website, www.ama.gov.gh, and send them to [email protected] once completed.
He urged youth to educate themselves on climate change and to take initiative by creating and proposing creative ideas that could support sustainability.

“The future belongs to the youth, and we must take responsibility to ensure we leave the planet in a better state for future generations,” he continued.
AMA collaborated with traders and social media influencer Official Starter as part of the campaign to inform locals about the dangers of climate change and the importance of sustainable environmental practices.
It is anticipated that the YCAF Phase II project will improve sustainable climate practices throughout the city and encourage community involvement.
