Earlier today, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh made an unexpected visit to Ridge Hospital, also known as the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, to evaluate the facility’s operational standards and the quality of healthcare provided.
The Minister arrived at the institution and took a tour of the emergency room, the inpatient and outpatient departments, and the imaging department, among other important hospital departments.
He spoke with the hospital’s management team to get their opinion on issues related to infrastructure and service delivery.

During the unexpected inspection, it was discovered that the CT and MRI scanners needed immediate repair because they had not been in use for the previous two years.
Minister Akandoh conveyed his displeasure with the necessary medical equipment shortage and service delays.
Nonetheless, he praised the commitment of medical personnel who persist in working in difficult circumstances.
“These unannounced visits help us see the reality on the ground, not just what is reported in boardrooms,” he stated.
To address the shortcomings found during the visit, the Health Minister promised to take prompt follow-up measures.
He pledged that the Ministry would collaborate closely with the hospital’s administration to improve patient care and working environment.
He underlined that the government’s dedication to bolstering Ghana’s healthcare system and meeting the changing requirements of its citizens is reflected in the visit.
