Following the official visit of Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to the Gulf nation, Ghana is poised to welcome a surge of investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
During the two-day working visit, Mr. Ablakwa held high-level meetings with senior officials of the UAE government and prominent industry figures, obtaining firm commitments from Emirati companies to invest in Ghana’s priority sectors.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of the UAE, received Mr. Ablakwa.
The Ghanaian minister engaged in strategic talks with important UAE officials, including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the Minister of State; Lana Nusseibeh, who serves as Assistant Minister for Political Affairs; and ministers in charge of foreign trade and investment.
A key component of the minister’s mission, the investment drive corresponds with President John Mahama’s economic recovery initiative titled “Ghana is Open for Business Again.”
Ghana’s developing prospects, especially in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, aviation, and defense, have drawn strong interest from the UAE private sector.
In the coming weeks, several companies from the UAE are expected to arrive in Ghana to conduct due diligence and start projects, marking a significant development following the visit.
The delegation is interested in renewable energy at a time when Ghana is working to diversify its energy mix for better reliability and sustainability.
In a post on social media, Mr. Ablakwa observed that talks addressed the advancement of Ghana’s aviation sector.
The minister announced a significant advance for youth employment, revealing that agreements were tentatively established to ease large-scale labor export to the UAE.
It is anticipated that this initiative will generate thousands of jobs for skilled workers in Ghana across different sectors.
The implementation depends on the completion of the ongoing Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between both countries.
The Foreign Minister characterized the visit’s outcome as a “milestone in Ghana’s international economic diplomacy” and expressed gratitude to the UAE government and Ghana’s diplomatic team for their assistance in obtaining the investment pledges.
Future activities following the visit will be aimed at expediting investment frameworks and facilitating UAE companies’ seamless entry into the market in Ghana.
