President Mahama swears in new members of the Police Council

The Vice President of Ghana, H. E. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the Ghana Police Service, which was sworn in by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama in compliance with Article 201 of the 1992 Constitution.

COP Rtd. Nathan Kofi Boakye, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Angel Lolo (Esq.), Rose Bio Atinga, Benson Atongo Baba, Daniel Owusu Nyampong (Esq.), Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and IGP Cristian Tetteh-Yohuno are among them.

President Mahama emphasized in his remarks the role of the Ghana Police Council in maintaining the Police Service’s professionalism, equity, openness, and public accountability.

He gave the council the task of resolving disputes inside the Service over postings, promotions, seniority, and general concerns.

The President further emphasized how important it is for the Council to support the Police Service’s adherence to human rights, justice, and discipline.

He urged the other branches of government and the people to follow suit, and he promised the Council his entire support in carrying out its constitutional role.

In her acceptance address, H.E. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the Council’s grave responsibility to the country and promised to lead with openness, inclusivity, and a dedication to fostering an honorable and trustworthy culture within the Police Service.
