A seven-member panel returned a 4-3 decision finding Mr. Gregory Afoko not guilty of the murder of a former regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Upper East.
Mr. Afoko and Asabke Alangdi had been on trial for the past six years together.
However, under the Criminal Procedure Act, 1960 (Act 30), decisions of that kind are deemed to be hung and call for a new trial.
In 2015, Mr. Afoko, the sibling of former NPP Chairman Paul Afoko, was charged with plotting with Alangdi to assassinate Alhaji Adam Mahama, commonly known as “Red.”
Alangdi was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder by the jury in a unanimous decision.
The seven-member panel unanimously decided that Alangdi had committed murder conspiracy.
The attorneys for Mr. Asabke want to challenge the judgment.
