According to a recall notice sent out by Speaker Alban Bagbin on April 20, members of parliament are expected to gather today, May 2, 2023, for “urgent parliamentary business”.

In the statement, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, said: “In exercise of the power conferred on the Speaker by order 42(3) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, do hereby direct that Parliament shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Tuesday, the 2nd day of May 2023, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business.”

On March 31, 2023, the House adjourned after adopting three contentious tax proposals into law. The Nanton Member of Parliament was injured in an accident while traveling to the House to participate in the vote to pass the laws.

On that same evening, the MPs also gave their approval to two additional Supreme Court Justices who had already undergone vetting by the Appointments Committee.
