Dr. Clement Apaak, the deputy minister of education, has reassured applicants for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) that the government is dedicated to enhancing facilities at Senior High Schools (SHSs) nationwide so that they can be absorbed.

According to him, this was done to make sure they had a smooth transition to SHS and to give them a comfortable learning environment.

When Dr. Apaak visited a few BECE centers in Tamale on Monday to speak with applicants, invigilators, and school officials, he provided the assurance.

He was accompanied by other representatives from the Regional Directorate of Education, including Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jr., Northern Regional Director of Education.

Dr. Apaak stated that in order to promote academic success, the government has already started taking steps to alleviate food shortages in schools and to expand classroom and lodging facilities.

“Government acknowledges the gaps and is working to address infrastructural challenges in various Senior High Schools across the country,” he stated.

He expressed hope that the government’s initiatives would facilitate the candidates’ academic travels in the upcoming years and urged them to maintain their composure and focus during the exam time.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), a few applicants said they were confident they would pass the tests and were eager to continue their study at the SHS level with better facilities.

The Minister’s visit was praised by school officials during the visit, who said it raised staff and candidate morale.

With thousands of applicants taking the week-long test, this year’s BECE started on Wednesday, June 11 and was held in all 16 regions of the nation.
