The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has declared that state ministers would soon begin utilizing electric vehicles (EVs).
He said that this was a component of the government’s green transition program.
During his turn at the Government Accountability Series press conference at the Presidency in Accra, the Minister revealed the information in his half-year report on Ghana’s energy industry.
The Presidency Communications Bureau is organizing the Government Accountability Series in an effort to increase accountability and transparency in governance.
The government started the EV promotion program a few weeks ago, according to Mr. Jinapor, and these EV cars will require solar power to charge.
He stated that EV vehicles would soon be imported for use by government entities and that the program was a component of government initiatives.
“So very soon, you will see ministers driving EV vehicles; we will roll it out to other departments, and heads of agencies, some of whom are here, will be driving EV vehicles powered by solar power,” he said.
“We will, in collaboration with the private sector, extend it to commercial drivers and other users so that EV vehicles will become a norm as far as the nation is concerned.”
He stated that continuous changes meant to solve technical and financial issues as well as modernize infrastructure were the main cause of Ghana’s energy sector’s steadiness and improvement.
He asserted that there had been a notable improvement in the country’s consistent and unpredictable electricity supply since they took government at the beginning of the year.
“And you can attest to the fact that we are now experiencing a reliable, uninterruptible supply of power,” he said.
“Some people went to town saying there would be nationwide power outages on Sunday when ENI was upgrading its facility to increase gas production,” Mr. Jinapor added.
“Fortunately, through the collaborative effort with all the stakeholders and our technical team, we’re able to conduct that operation successfully without switching even one megawatt off,” he said.
